Get the kitchen in order!

The restaurants are still closed for a while. Unfortunately! It is important that you feel comfortable in your kitchen if you spend a lot of time there every day.

Here are my top tips to make it work:

  • ALWAYS do the dishes immediately after eating! You will save time overall if you do it right away, as the food remains have not yet dried up.
  • Let the dishwasher run overnight and empty it immediately in the morning. It takes max. 5 minutes! I always do this first thing in the morning while I make myself a cup of tea. That way, my family has no excuse and can take care of their bowls, glasses and such right away.
  • Mail and other paperwork (e.g. from school) does not belong in the kitchen. Find a suitable home for it, but preferably not in the kitchen.
  • Keep the shelves in the kitchen as free as possible. This way you have more space for cooking and cleaning afterwards is quick and easy. 
  • Kitchen appliances that you don't use regularly (i.e. less than once a week) should be stored away so that there is more space on the worktop. It also looks much nicer when everything is not so cluttered.
  • Go through all your food regularly, for example right now at the beginning of the year. Even the spices! Of course, a food that has only recently expired is still edible. But if it has been out of date for several years, get rid of it. Food that you bought a while ago to try out, but somehow didn't feel like eating until now, can be thrown away or given away. The chances of you changing your mind are very small. 
  • A menu plan for the week is extremely important so that you don't have to keep running off because something is missing.
