Distance learning .... or home schooling...

The day before yesterday, my two boys each came home with a huge bag of school material for the next 3 weeks and then yesterday we started the so-called distance learning. Oooops! This is a whole new situation. Even though their rooms are relatively empty and tidy (poor kids of a tidiness coach 😉 ), we had to make some space right away. Here are my top tips to make it a successful start to distance learning.

Make room for the school books and sheets. All distance learning documents should be in one place and not lying around everywhere. If there is no space on the shelf or in the chest of drawers, now is a good time to create sustainable order. Go through your books from home and see if they are still needed and age-appropriate. (If not, a neighbour or friend might be happy to receive some new books, as the libraries are also closed). Perhaps you can also dispose of some toys that are broken or no longer complete, or temporarily store some things in the cellar that you don't need much or at all. These things either go into a transparent box so that you can see immediately what is inside or into a cardboard box with a label regarding the contents and date!

The School-Thek You won't need it until the end of April, so store it in the cellar or somewhere at the top of a cupboard so that it doesn't lie around for 6 weeks.

Check that your child is getting enough Pens, paper etc. At the moment, everything is still available in the larger grocery shops.

Check, as already mentioned in the Home Office Blog, whether the lighting and seating position are fine are. When sitting, it is important that the upper and lower legs are at right angles to each other and that the feet touch the floor.

And now for the most important tip of all: Make sure you have an Regular day structure. Sleeping in and hanging around or gaming all day is not the order of the day now. The point is that we learn something even in times of emergency! We have received the following timetable from our headmistress, which I am happy to share with you. According to the school administration, children of primary school age should study at home for 4 hours. We start a little earlier in the morning than suggested by the school and finish around 3 pm....

9:00 Start learning block 1

10:00 Break

10:30 to 11:30 Continuation of learning block 1

Lunch, doing chores, playing

13:30 Start learning block 2

14:30 Break

15:00 to 16:00 Continuation of learning block 2

Tomorrow we'll be back in the kitchen with the fridge, freezer etc.

Stay healthy and stay at home as much as possible!

See you soon!
