Good morning! Week 2 of shut-down light. I hope you are all alive and well. Today we're going to take a last look at the food in the fridge... tomorrow we'll continue with the kitchen (cupboards and drawers).
I think it makes a lot of sense to keep the fridge tidy, because no other place in the house is as economically important. If we don't know exactly what is in the fridge, we buy things twice or a lot of things expire before they are eaten and end up in the waste.
The procedure for tidying up is always the same. Namely...
- Empty the fridge completely
- Clean thoroughly. You can remove the shelves and vegetable drawers for this purpose. Tip: stick Post-its on the position so that you still know where the shelves go. Of course, you can also think about whether a new arrangement of the shelves would be more practical...
- Throw away the spoiled
- Then sort and group them according to categories. Tip: Small boxes help enormously to keep things tidy, for example for cheese, cold cuts, yoghurt, etc. The boxes also have the advantage that the fridge itself stays pretty clean. I recommend labelling the boxes. Labelling the shelves also helps to keep things tidy and so that everyone knows where what belongs.
- After that, you can put everything back in the fridge. It is important to pay attention to the temperatures in the refrigerator. The glass shelf above the vegetable compartment is the coldest. This is ideal for meat and fish. Towards the top, the temperature rises by a few degrees. Dairy products such as milk, yoghurt, cream and cheese belong in the middle section, and sausages and already prepared dishes or even cakes on top. There is a lot of information about this on the internet.
- Tip: when you are done and everything looks tiptop, take your mobile phone and take a photo. This photo is then your motivation... you can look at it again and again so that it motivates you to keep the order like this. Of course, you can do this in every area when you are done organising.
I wish everyone a good start to the week... and see you tomorrow. Soon we will have completely reorganised the kitchen.
